Donut World - West Coast Style Doughnuts

Donut World

You could travel the world
But nothing comes close to the Golden Coast
-Katy Perry

Put down that Krispy Kreme for a moment, and listen. There's a difference between donuts here on the East-coast, and those typically found in (oh say) California. No really. Now before you try to arrange your fingers into the letter "E" and yell "eeeeeeaaaaast sssssssiiiiiddddeeee" into the laptop screen, consider this.... they might be better. "But nothing is better than a light and fluffy KK (don't add that third K) doughnut." True that, I'm down with you on that.... I'm a fan, but Shannon, a California transplant has been west-bound and down for a authentic cake doughnut since the day we moved out here. There's also something to be said about hand-crafted, made fresh daily, old-fashioned doughnuts that don't come off a conveyor belt, or are made from a "corporate recipe". Perhaps it's more apples and oranges of a comparison, two separate food groups? That said, Donut World is a "secret" comfort food haven for exiled Californians in North Carolina craving that west-coast style bakery doughnut. I'm also quite a fan of apple fritters, and this place has them the size of my neighbor's chihuahua.

My God, look at all the doughnuts!
Here's the bottom-line... If you know the type of donut I'm referring to, and you too have been wanting one, then you'll need no convincing to go to Donut World. If you're a local who was bottle fed biscuit gravy and sucked down Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed for Sunday worship, you may need a alibi for when your loyalty is questioned. That excuse is: great service and unique donuts that you can't get at the competitors. Plus unlike my local gas station that also sells doughnuts, the entire crew doesn't stop to pull out their camera phone so they can take a pictures of you while yelling (say it in a dumb redneck accent) "Look at her pink hair.... she must be that Katy Perry.... wow, she's gotten FFFFFAAAATTTT!" If you see me on TMZ later, you'll realize I look nothing like Katy Perry. Likewise, if you want a real doughnut, one that would make Snoop Dog proud... Go to Donut World for your west coast style doughnuts. It's like Disneyworld for your mouth- a bit of California in Carolina.
